MEET THE TEAM

The CAfrica Sports management team brings blended expertise in African business markets and television content/distribution from the United States and Africa.

The team has conducted business in more than 30 countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa across a number of industries. Further, the executives at CAfrica Sports have worked in pay and broadcast TV at all levels – from small systems in Africa to general management of video for several of America’s largest cable companies. The team also maintains experience in having worked directly with some of the world’s largest sports leagues, sports channels and video content companies.

 


 

Robert Fogler
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Fogler brings broad experience from corporate finance, law and business development to his role at CAfrica Sports. Prior to co-founding the company, he established and directed the Thousand Hills Venture Fund (THVF), the first U.S.-based, Africa-focused venture capital fund financed entirely by private money. THVF has received coverage from prestigious international publications including The Economist, Worth Magazine, Business 2.0 and The Banker. TVHF has invested in a number of companies serving a range of industries including technology, agricultural processing, energy and housing. In 2009, Mr. Fogler was named “Investor of the Year” by the Rwanda Convention Association, Rwanda’s leading diaspora. In addition to his venture fund work, Mr. Fogler spent 10 years as a corporate finance and venture capital lawyer at several of America’s leading law firms.

Mr. Fogler’s insight into African business and investment has made him a sought after speaker. He has been a featured lecturer, panelist and participant at leading Africa-focused investment conferences in Africa and the U.S. He is an active member of the African Venture Capital Association and the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association. He was a founding member of the Gender Equality Forum at the World Economic Forum in Cape Town, 2008. He is also an adjunct professor at the Joseph Korbel School of International Studies at Denver University, where he teaches a graduate-level course on Capital Markets in Africa. Mr. Fogler holds degrees in engineering, philosophy and law, all from the University of Michigan.


 

Eugene Nyagahene
Co-Founder and Executive Director

Mr. Nyagahene is a television pioneer in Africa where he has lived and worked as a successful entrepreneur across six countries. He operated one of the first multi-country pay-TV franchises of Africa’s largest pay-TV services, DsTV/Multichoice. Mr. Nyagahene holds the first private broadcast license ever issued in Rwanda. In 2009, he was a winner of the first Legatum Pioneers of Prosperity Africa Prize. In 2004, Mr. Nyagahene was a finalist for the Africa SMME Award presented by Afrigrowth Institute.


 

Cathy Fogler
Co-Founder and Managing Director

Ms. Fogler directs CAfrica Sports’ video distribution strategy to countries in sub-Saharan Africa. She is also an advisory consultant to Sand Cherry Associates where she has provided expertise in Video on Demand launches in Europe and the Digital Transition in the U.S.

Prior to joining CAfrica Sports, she was vice president and general manager of video at Charter Communications. In that role, she was responsible for five million residential video customers. During her tenure at Charter Communications, Ms. Fogler led efforts to increase video revenue and cash flow and to develop product and programming strategy. Before Charter, Cathy held various management positions at Adelphia Communications, AT&T Broadband and TCI. Cathy began her career as an advertising account executive at Leo Burnett Company in Chicago.

Cathy is a frequent panelist and moderator for industry associations and conferences. In 2007, Cathy was named Woman of the Year by the Women in Cable Telecommunications Rocky Mountain Chapter. She served as the co-chair of the Broadband Taskforce for The Innovation Council from 2007 through2009, a position to which she was appointed by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. Cathy received her MBA from the University of Chicago and her BSE in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.


 

Adolphe Kajangwe
Director of Operations – Consultant

Mr. Kajangwe serves as consultant and director of operations with CAfrica Sports. In this role, he is responsible for the broadcaster relationships with Francophone countries, as he is fluent in both English and French. Mr. Kajangwe is a senior associate with EKS&H, the largest Colorado-based audit and accounting firm. He has previously worked for KPMG and H&R Block. Mr. Kajangwe is a graduate of Regis University in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He also holds an associated degree in political science from Bismarck State College, where he played basketball for the varsity team.

A Rwandan national, Mr. Kajangwe grew up in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and the United States.
